SK bioscience was established as an independent corporation after a physical division from SK chemicals on July 1, 2018, leading the advancement and globalization of the domestic vaccine industry.
In 2008, before the division, SK chemicals selected the vaccine business as the next-generation growth driver and completed the construction of L HOUSE, a state-of-the-art vaccine factory, in Andong in 2012, laying the foundation for growth into a global vaccine company.
Since then, through continuous investment, we have launched Korea’s first cell-culture trivalent flu vaccine, ‘SKYCellflu’ in 2015, and the world’s first cell-cultured quadrivalent influenza vaccine, ‘Skycellflu Quadrivalent’ in 2016. In 2017, we developed the world's second shingles vaccine, Sky Zoster, and in 2018, Korea's second varicella vaccine, Sky Varicella, expanding our vaccine portfolio.
Advanced R&D technology and productivity have led to global achievements.
Since 2014, we have jointly developed a next-generation pneumococcal vaccine with Sanofi Pasteur and have been conducting global clinical trials. With the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, we are developing a typhoid vaccine with the International Vaccine Research Institute, and we are also participating in the development of a new rotavirus vaccine with the global vaccine research institution PATH (Program for Appropriate Technology in Health).
Recently, we succeeded in expressing a candidate substance for a vaccine to prevent the COVID-19 virus that has caused a global pandemic, proving the country's leading vaccine technology. In addition, we signed a CMO/CDMO contract for the consignment production of the COVID-19 vaccine with global companies such as AstraZeneca and Novavax, and our world-class production capacity was recognized.
SK bioscience plans to develop a vaccine that leads the global market with next-generation innovative technology and leap forward as a global company.
